Description

Taken at one of my favorite locations -- an abandoned laboratory.

While shooting in this location the wind slammed a metal door shut in the room next to us, and our hearts nearly stopped :p

The figure is my fiancée, Veronica. When not acting as a subject, she is an excellent photo-assistant.

This could possibly be my last submission from my trusty Canon A95, as I've recently ordered some much-needed equipment, which will hopefully be arriving later this week.

This is very nice Brandon. I like the monochrome choice you made here. I like how you chose to frame her with the doorway. And I especially like the texture to this image.

Brandon, I have an idea for a photoshoot in one of these abandoned buildings. Do you think you'd like to help me out? Maybe one weekend next month?

Nice work Brandon

Well balanced composition and great mood

The background has an interesting effect,
I'm not sure whether I like it or not, but it certainly is different;)

+ 10

@ GFXartist sponsor emarts: Thanks, and sounds good!

@ Elite, GFXartist sponsor Wallace: Thanks! Yeah, I've gotten different reactions about the background. Some like it, some don't. I do personally, but obviously it's a personal preference thing :)

I like the background. I think it is slightly surreal and it sets of her face very nicely. I am not a photographer so I am probably speaking nonsense but it looks damn fine to me

Love the mood

Definitely takes on a disconcerting, dreamlike quality. The cool tones are working nicely to this effect as well, and the sharp-soft contrast is essential to the feel of the piece. Only thing I'd possibly change is the slight dark halo around her head and (our) left side; with the crisp edge on her left/out right, it seems out of place, even given the background's artificiality.

Is this maybe your future home after the wedding... ;) ???

Think of it. You can wake up and do a photo shoot at any time. How good wouldn't that be... :p

Thanks very much, everyone for your comments!

@ Elite Andy--Jones: I understood you quite well, but then again, I'm quite versed in nonsense :p

@  chickenfingers: Thanks for your critique -- appreciated as usual :) As for the "dark halo," do you mean her hair? Aside from that I'm not sure what else you could be referring to. The background is definitely there in real life though, despite the artificial look.

@ GFXartist sponsor Almost-Human: That's a fantastic idea! I think I just might...

@ Elite moserArtist: Shhh... you'll ruin the surprise :p

feels like a horror movie mood, but it's not creepy. beautiful. great one!

Ha, no, not the hair. I'm not that dense. :p But maybe I am seeing things. Just looks like there's a dark blur around the head and left side, as if the area around the figure were selected, feathered, and lightened. I guess no one else is really seeing that, though, so nevermind. For my next trick, I will pick invisible nits. ;)

@  chickenfingers: Ha hah, sorry. I wasn't trying to infer that you were dense :p I do see what you mean now. The "halo" part had me thrown off a bit. I did do some selective sharpening (which did include the area around her head), so you're actually right-on in that respect.

Thanks  TepoY,  JeffMD,  Vasco, and  ARZILLIER66! :)

The doorframe being just off on it's own subtle angles gives this so much play to add to a very well layed out picture....
